Recommended Reading: In praise of dictators?

Today in class we had an interesting exchange on whether one can praise a dictator, and it's interesting because the same conversation has been going on recently in our electoral politics.

Check out these articles where one current and one former presidential candidate are taken to task for praising things about dictatorial regimes.

What do you think? Is it ever okay to point out the good points of dictatorial regimes? Explain your opinion leaving a Comment below.

to go over some background and a timeline for the Dominican Republic.
to begin reading our excerpt from Juan Gonzalez's Harvest of Empire: The History of Latinos in America

"Concepts Of Text Fly From Text Book" by Vichaya Kiatying-Angsulee
Homework:
Finish reading the first page up through Paragraph 8. Do not annotate beyond Paragraph 4, which you should have annotated following the steps of the Annotation Activity. Just circle unfamiliar vocab not defined at the bottom of the page. Choose 4 of the words you circled and fill out this Unfamiliar Vocab Tracker. When you look up the word and write the definition, make sure you understand the definition. Instead of writing the definition word for word, write something you will understand when you came back to look at your tracker.
